It is bounded in the North by the Municipality of Pozorrobio, on the South by the City of Urdaneta, on the East by the Town of Laoac, and on the West by the Municipalities of San Jacinto and Mandapan.
Manaoag has a total land area of 5,716.24 hectares and is subdivided into twenty-six (26) barangays. Twenty-four (24) of these barangays or 96.92% of the total municipal land area constitute the rural land area. Only Barangays Poblacion and Calaocan constitute the urban barangays of the municipality.
The Municipality of Manaoag is mostly an agricultural community. Of its total land area, 53.46% or 3,956 hectares are utilized for crop production. Irrigated rice lands consist of 1,121 hectares, while the remaining 1,935 hectares are rain fed.
The irrigated agricultural areas are planted with rice for two cropping seasons. As for the rain fed areas, rice is only planted on the first cropping covering the period June to September. Various crops like corn, tobacco, peanuts and root crops are then planted on the second cropping covering the period October to January.
Manaoag is often referred to as the Catholic Mecca in the Northern part of Luzon. The name of the municipality was derived from a tale about the Blessed Mother calling a middle-aged farmer, telling him where she wanted her church to be located. The story soon spread and droves of people began visiting the place. And when asked where they came from, they would reply “Dimad Apo Ya Mantatawag”. When translated, this means “From the Lady Who Calls”. In time, the other words in the phrase were dropped and the name of the town Manaoag was derived.
Producers Bank recently got the approval of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in the former’s application for additional five (5) new branch licenses. The other four (4) branches to be opened will be in Dagupan City, Malasiqui and San Carlos City in the province of Pangasinan, and in Maddela in the province of Quirino.
